Hoodallstars.com would like to congratulate Claressa Shields for becoming the 1st woman to win the Olympic Boxing middleweight title by beating Russian boxer Nadezhda Torlopova with scores of 19-12.  At the tender age of 17 she is the 2nd youngest fighter to win gold in either men or women’s Olympic boxing.  Shields performance in the London 2012 Olympic Games gave the United States a small glimmer of hope towards the future because it overshadowed the overall worst showing from America ever.  Unlike so many of her Olympic peers Shields victory flew under the radar.  NBC didn’t show any coverage of her winning effort on Thursday night.  She couldn’t even get a little 45 second highlight clip.  It’s cool though because Claressa Shields is a hero and Hoodallstar in our eyes.  She definitely made her hometown of Flint, Michigan as well as the rest of her country proud.  Hopefully she inspires more young women to pursue the sport of boxing and that the media will shine some light on these young athletes that work so hard to get to the top.  Claressa Shields, stand up and be proud because your efforts made you the hoodallstar of the week.
