Dirrell vs Degale

Dirrell vs Degale

Boxing fans rejoice.  We have a huge weekend of boxing to look forward to with fights being broadcast from all over the world.  As always, I’ll give you my Swag Science prediction for all of the action that’s going to take place.

Andre Dirrell vs James Degale (IBF super middleweight title fight) Boston, NBC*Saturday

Thoughts – This is a great match up between too quick boxer punchers.  I’d give Dirrell the slight edge due to his greater experience, but he’s in tough for sure.  I think he uses his bigger skill set to win a close maybe controversial decision.  I can see both fighters hurting each other and maybe even scoring a knockdown or two.

Official Prediction – Dirrell by Decision

Alexander Povetkin vs. Mike Perez (heavyweight division) Moscow, ESPN* Friday

Official Prediction – Povetkin by Decision

Andrey Fedosov vs. Donovan Dennis (Heavyweight division) California, ESPN* Friday

Official Prediction – Dennis by Decision

Brandon Adams vs. John Thompson (Jr. middleweight division) California, ESPN* Friday

Official Prediction – Adams by Decision

2015 Prediction Record – 37-11

Golovkin vs Monroe Jr.

HBO Boxing returns this Saturday night when rising star Gennady Golovkin defends his middleweight title against Willie Monroe Jr. at the Forum in Inglewood California.  As always, I’ll drop my Swag Science prediction and breakdown of this fight an it’s undercard.

Gennady Golovkin vs Willie Monroe Jr. (Middleweight) California*

Thoughts – This is a solid match up, but Monroe probably lacks the experience to really let his skills shine against Triple G.  We also don’t know if he has the type of chin to withstand those bombs that Golovkin throws.  Monroe does have a style that could trouble Triple G.  He’s a quick southpaw with good movement that throws accurate punches.  I think Golovkin patiently stalks Monroe before unloading something big and getting him out of there.

Official Prediction – Golovkin by Mid Rd KO

Roman Gonzalez vs Edgar Sosa (Flyweight Championship Bout)

Thoughts – This a good match up.  Gonzalez is finally getting that HBO exposure and he’ll be sharing the ring with a true veteran in the division.  This should be an entertaining fight where Roman’s elite pressuring skills with eventually break down Sosa late in the fight.

Official Prediction – Gonzalez by Late KO

Jose Benavidez vs. Jorge Paez Jr. (Jr. Welterweight) Arizona Tru Tv Friday*

Official Prediction – Benavidez by Late KO

Antonio Orozco vs. Emmanuel Taylor (Jr. Welterweight) Tru Tv Friday*

Official Prediction – Orozco by Decision

2015 Prediction Record – (33 -11)

Canelo vs Kirkland

canelo vs kirkland

Now that the most boring fight of the century between the sport’s two biggest businessmen is finally over, we can get back to our normal boxing schedule.  HBO Boxing is back this Saturday night with a pretty good doubleheader with a main event between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and James “Mandingo Warrior” Kirkland.  Please share and subscribe to the Swag Science youtube. channel.

Official Prediction – Canelo by Decision

Omar Figueroa vs. Ricky Burns (Jr. Welterweight division ) Hildago, Texas CBS/PBC*

Thoughts- Burns is past it now and a young gunner like Figueroa should be able to punish and stop him.

Official Prediction – Figueroa by Mid Rd KO

Jamie McDonnell vs. Tomoki Kameda (Bantamweight division) CBS*

Official Prediction – Kameda by Decision.

Luis Galarza vs. Austin Trout (Jr. Middleweight Division) CBS*

Official Prediction – Trout by Decision

W. Klitschko vs Jennings

Wlad vs Jennings

Fans can look forward to a decent weekend of boxing.  I’ll give my Swag Science prediction and breakdown of the biggest fights that are taking place.

(Saturday Bouts)

Wladimir Klitschko vs Bryant Jennings (Heavyweight Championship) New York HBO*

Thoughts – Jennings is probably the most well rounded heavyweight to come from America in years.  Unfortunately, that won’t be enough to beat the champ.  This fight is too soon for Bryant and the odds of him succeeding are slim.  I expect Klitschko to use his jab to set up his powerful hook or right cross.  Jennings is a fighter and he will try to make a good go at it, but he probably find himself quickly out-gunned.  Hopefully he’s able to take Wlad out of his comfort zone and make the predetermined boxing match into a dog fight.  That’s the only way to rattle Klitschko nowadays.  I think Wladimir scores a late KO in a fight that we’ll probably forget about by next week.

Official Prediction – Klitschko by Late KO

Sadam Ali vs Francisco Santana (Welterweight) New York HBO*

Thoughts – Ali will use his boxing skills and speed to cruise to a decision victory.

Official Prediction – Ali by Decision

(Friday Bouts)

Anthony Dirrell vs Badou Jack (Super Middleweight Title Fight) Chicago, Spike Tv*

Thoughts – Dirrell is just the all around more superior fighter.  Jack is solid, but nothing special.  I expect him to get his ass kicked by Dirrell in impressive fashion.

Official Prediction – Dirrell by Mid Rd KO

Daniel Jacobs vs Caleb Truax (middleweight) Chicago, Spike Tv*

Thoughts – Jacobs seems intent on consistently fighting soft opposition.  Truax isn’t a scrub, but he’s a level below in Jacobs and shouldn’t pose much of a threat.  Jacobs should probably win this easily.

Official Prediction – Jacobs by Early KO

2015 Prediction Record – (27-8)

Matthysse vs Provodnikov

Provo Mattysse Crawford Dulorme

We have great bouts on HBO boxing and Showtime Boxing this Saturday night so boxing fans will definitely be in for a treat.  I have a Swag Science video prediction and breakdown for the HBO bouts and a written version for the Showtime fights.

Lucas Matthysse vs Ruslan Provodnikov (Jr. Welterweight) Verona. NY HBO*

Terence Crawford vs Thomas Dulorme WBO Jr. Welterweight title fight Arlington, Texas HBO*

Official Prediction – Provodnikov by Late KO/Stoppage

Official Prediction – Crawford by Late KO/Stoppage

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs Andrzej Fonfara Light Heavyweight fight Carson, CA. Showtime*

Thoughts – This is good match up that should provide fans with fireworks in the ring.  It’s basically a showcase fight that can be dangerous and those are usually entertaining.  Both are solid pressure boxers.  I think Jr’s offense is a lil more flasha aka judge friendly so I see him getting the decision in a pretty good back and forth bout.  Fonfara definitely has the ability to produce the upset though.

Official Prediction – Chavez by Decision

2015 Prediction record – (26-6)

Stevenson vs Bika

Al Haymon’s P.B.C. series returns this Saturday afternoon on CBS with pretty decent card.  I’ll give you my Swag Science prediction and breakdown of the main event as well as the under card bouts.  Enjoy.

Adonis Stevenson vs. Sakio Bika : (Light Heavyweight) WBC and Lineal Title Fight *CBS* Quebec City, Canada

Thoughts – This is another showcase fight for Stevenson, who’s run of opponents have been pretty disappointing since the Fonfara fight.  Bika is already pretty long in the tooth, but he’ll also be moving up in weight to fight one of the hardest punchers in the division.  Normally, Bika wouldn’t be such a bad match up since he always brings it, but under these particular circumstances he should be a pretty big underdog against Superman.  Bika looked like shit in the Dirrell rematch, so I don’t expect much from him in this fight.  Stevenson needs to win in impressive fashion (Brutal KO) so we can get the drums beating for the Kovalev fight which is the biggest fight in boxing after Floyd and Manny.  I think Superman will have target price and stop Bika somewhere in the middle rounds.

Official Prediction – Stevenson by Mid Rd KO.

Artur Beterbiev vs. Gabriel Campillo (Light Heavyweight)

Thoughts – Beterbiev has crazy power, but he’s crude as fuck in the boxing skills department.  A part of me feels like Campillo can exploit that, but the other part of me feels like he won’t be able to withstand the offense that will be coming back to him.  I think Campillo will expose Beterbiev to an extent with his boxing skills, but will eventually end up getting clipped in the end similar to the Fonfara fight, but not as competitive.

Official Prediction – Beterbiev by Mid Rd KO

Julian Williams vs. Joey Hernandez (Jr. Middleweight)

Official Prediction – Williams by Decision

2015 Prediction Record – (21-5)

Gonzalez vs Russell Jr.

Gonzalez vs Russell Jr

We have a pretty decent line up of fights this weekend.  As always, I’ll give my Swag Science prediction and breakdown.

Jhonny Gonzalez vs Gary Russell Jr. WBC Featherweight Title Fight *Showtime* Las Vegas

Thoughts – This is a solid match up of two boxer punchers.  Jhonny has way more experience at the top level, but is also less durable and slightly past it.  Russell is in his prime and is more talented and athletic than his opponent, but also lack experience or a victory over a top level opponent.  I believe both boxers have the power to hurt each other.  I believe Russell can outwork Gonzalez and possibly hurt him in the process if doesn’t get caught up in fighting at one speed which is turbo like he does 90% of the time.  He also can’t afford to make a mistake either since Gonzalez has fight changing power.  This bout has chess match written all over it.  I don’t expect an overall entertaining fight, although I do believe we’ll see a few big dramatic moments.  I think Russell gets a close maybe controversial decision by just being busier.

Official Prediction – Russell Jr by Decision

Jermell Charlo vs Vanes Martirosyan Jr. Middleweight *Showtime*

Thoughts – Charlo is definitely in for a tough fight.  Vanes is a decent all around boxer is that tough and strong.  I look for him to really bush Charlo back some in this bout.  Charlo is definitely the more talented and skilled of the two.  I think he’ll fight back through some tough moments and pull away for a competitive decision victory in a semi-entertaining fight.

Official Prediction – Charlo by Decision

Kell Brook vs Jo Jo Dan Welterweight Title Fight *Sky Sports* Sheffield England

Thoughts – Solid match up.  I think Brook wins, but doesn’t look great in doing so.  I think Dan’s style and boxing ability will give him some trouble

Official Prediction – Brook by Decision

2015 Prediction Record – (18-5)

Kovalev vs Pascal

We have a huge amount of boxing happening this week.  As always, you get the Swag Science prediction on all of the notable bouts that are taking place.  HBO, HBO2, as well as Spike tv are all making contributions to the boxing schedule this week.  Grab your favorite drink, sit back, and enjoy.

Sergey Kovalev vs. Jean Pascal (Light Heavyweight IBF,WBO, and WBA title fight HBO*) Saturday

Official Prediction – Kovalev by Decision

Steve Cunningham vs. Vyacheslav Glazkov (Heavyweight HBO*) Saturday

Thoughts – Good match up of styles.  Cunningham is the better overall fighter.  His punch resistance at Heavyweight is probably his biggest weakness, but he does a good job of recovering whenever hurt.  I think he stick and moves his way to a decision.  Glazkov might clip him once or twice, but I doubt he’ll be able to finish off Cunningham.

Official Prediction – Cunningham by Decision

Vasily Lepikhin vs. Isaac Chilemba (Light Heavyweight HBO*) Saturday

Official Prediction – Chilemba by Decision

Andre Berto vs. Josesito Lopez (Welterweights, Spike TV*) Friday

Thoughts – Good crossroads match up.  Both guys are definitely passed it, but not to the point where they can’t provide a good scrap.  Berto is more talented while Lopez is probably more durable.  They both can box a little, but feel more comfortable going to war and throwing bombs.  If the fight does go towards this direction, then it should favor Berto since he’s the faster, harder punching fighter that is also naturally bigger.  I think Berto pulls out a tough win where both boxers have their moments.

Official Prediction – Berto by Decision

Shawn Porter vs. Roberto Garcia (Welterweights, Spike TV*) Friday

Thoughts – This bout has all the makings of a rough and tumble fight.  Porter is easily the more talented and skilled of the two, but he’s quite hit and miss at times.  One day he’ll look good stalking opponents behind a stiff jab and solid body work, while on other days he’ll be leaping at opponents with reckless abandon hoping to land some wild haymaker.  Garcia is tough and hits hard.  He’s not the most skilled fighter Porter has shared the ring with, but he’s probably the strongest.  This will be a battle of wills.  I just think the overall better boxer in Porter will prevail in a rough semi entertaining fight that will feature all types of fouls and shit.

Official Prediction – Porter by Decision

Chris Arreola vs. Curtis Harper (Heavyweights, Spike TV*) Friday

Official Prediction – Arreola by Early KO

2015 Prediction Record – (14-3)
